Submit Work
How to Submit
To submit work please email us at robbie@toadinmud.co.uk, including:
1) How you came to hear about Toad in Mud.
2) The piece(s) of writing themselves.
3) A description, or example, of how you would like the piece to be formatted.
4) Exactly how (ie: middle names etc) you would like your name to be presented.
5) Whatever biography you wish to be shown on the “Author” page.
6) You are welcome to provide a photograph for the “Author” page, as well as a personal website address.
You may submit as many pieces as you like. We do allow Anonymous pieces, but for copyright purposes you must provide us with a real name, though we will not make this publicly available if you so wish.
Guidelines
We urge you to submit whatever piece you would like to see on the site, our goal is to present varied and interesting works by authors of all ages, backgrounds, dialects and styles.
Due, however, to constraints of space we mainly concentrate on shorter pieces, as a guideline: poems up to 200 lines and prose pieces up to 2000 words. We will of course consider each piece on its individual merits, including anything more substantial than this. Also note that we usually cannot accept pieces that have been previously published in any form, and anything you submit must be completely your own work, you must retain appropriate publishing rights. Often this means works entered into other journals or competitions must be excluded.
Toad in Mud is a on-line journal and community review which aims to maintain a high level of quality. We do not accept all work regardless. We will give comment and critique on all work submitted unless you request that we do not do so. We will, before publishing anything on the site, reply with any advice on how we think work might be altered, such as is done with submissions to any journal. Though you should do so yourself before submitting, we will also check basic spelling and grammar, and respond to confirm any changes we think may be neccessary. Technical spelling and grammar is not necessary, nor particularly desired, and only an issue if erroneous. The non publishing of a piece in one form does not necessarily mean that we will not accept it if it is submitted in another incarnation. There are no forms or subjects that are preferred and works will be judged with as much objectivity as our editors can muster.
Usage of Materials
On submission you give us the right for the piece to be published indefinitely on the site as seen, though the aesthetic style of the site may change. Though not appearing on the front page or side link bar, they will be retained in the on-line archive. We will remove any pieces from the entirety of the site on request. The piece will be permanently accredited to you, and will never appear without such accreditation. We will never allow others to publish your work without your consent, or do so ourselves in any other form other than the on-line journal http://www.toadinmud.co.uk. We do publish annual or biannual journals in PDF format, but if your work is selected we will request your permission before including your work.
Thank you.
